Construction Legislation

The latest edition of the Joint Code of Practice on  the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation, was published on the 18th July 1997 by the Loss Prevention Council and the Building Employers Confederation.

The main feature in the fourth edition is that products used for temporary protective covering  must be Flame Retardant to The Loss Prevention Council Standard LPS1207 Fire Requirements  for Protective Covering Materials  and must be certificated by a United Kingdom Accreditation Service Certification Body.

This means that a product must be approved  and printed with the LPCB logo and certificate number. Products not bearing this will not meet the full requirements of LPS1207.

The Association of British Insurers recognise the above legislation and wish to address the risk of fires on construction sites.  Consequently the use of non-flame retardant and non-certified products could lead to an insurance claim deemed to be invalid in the event of a fire
